As I mentioned a few days ago, my brother carried his bike on his Bug 
for well over a year (no, it wasnt left there. He was a student and 
drove to another town, parked in the outskirts (cheap) and biked in to 
the university.). He made a mount very similar to this, with a 2 mm 
plate ment to a U shape and an axle shaft from a front wheel to clamp 
the fork. In the rear he had another U shaped bracket where the rear 
wheel fit perfectly, and a rubber strap to hold it to the rear rack. 
Worked flawlessly!
