If I'm gonna take the square (and my daughter) to Parma, we're going to bring my bike and my daughter's trailer bike -- both for some recreation on a slower trip home, and, in certain cases, as "alternate" transportation if the '69 desides to be cranky. ;) I've been thinking about bike transportation options. My '69 has the screw-on U.S. dealer roof rack. Jim had some thoughts about lashing 2" x 4" lumber to the bars that encricle the rack as a base for some bike mountings. I've also looked at the Thule and other offerings. I think that you could piece together enought Thule components to work in with/around the rack I've got and end up with a good carrier arrangement, but you'd end up paying more than I paid for my bike. ;) (A mid-eighties Bridgestone T700 27" touring bike.) I think I'm going to try lashing a 2x4 laterally on the rack, and I just ordered one of these universal skewer mounts: http://www.deltacycle.com/hitch/carrierbody4_2.php I plan on screwing this to the 2x4, then the front fork of my bike will attach via the mount's skewer. I'll work on some way to tie down the rear wheel to the rear of the roof rack. Think we'll throw my daughter's trailer bike into the back of the square -- I think she'd freak if it went along for the ride on top of the car, she loves that trailer. :) If anybody has any thoughts/suggestions/experiences that would be helpful in this little project, please let me know! -Greg ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
