Good point. Most stainless is non magnetic, but some of the 
wrought forms are slightly magnetic. I don't know which the Heli-
coil inserts are, but I can check.

Okay, I just checked some 8mm inserts. I don't have any SP 
Helicoils, but I assume they are all the same alloy. The ones I have 
are slightly magnetic, so this might work.

If the tang has fallen to the bottom of the cylinder it would be 
challenging to get a magnet to it and back, but it would still be less 
work than pulling the engine.
