<x-flowed>I agree, go synthetic and get some Redline oil. http://www.redlineoil.com/gearoil.htm The Redline is rated GL-4 and is reccomended by a lot of Vanagon people. Vanagons and especially the Syncro 4wd model has fragile trannies so the best lubrication is vital for these people. I have experienced a Vanagon Syncro tranny go south myself and it's bad and expensive. You can obviously get GL-4 from Chevron and Amsoil as well, from reading the archives at the Vanagon mailing list. And here is a great explanation on why you should NOT use GL-5 in your transmission: http://gerry.vanagon.com/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind0001E&L=vanagon&D=0&P=5264 PerL 73 Variant L Tom Hansen wrote: > This "fact" has made its way through many BBS and always with horror >stories that no one could substantiate.
