reccomended by a lot of Vanagon people. Vanagons and especially the 
Syncro 4wd model has fragile trannies so the best lubrication is vital 
for these people. I have experienced a Vanagon Syncro tranny go south 
myself and it's bad and expensive. You can obviously get GL-4 from 
Chevron and Amsoil as well, from reading the archives at the Vanagon 
mailing list.And here is a great explanation on why you should NOT use 
GL-5 in your transmission:
