It is GL-5 Gear Oil. I remember a recent post that said NOT to use GL-5. I only have a few hundred miles on her since that change. Should I change the Gear OIl to GL-4 as soon as possible? Have I permantly damaged my tranny? Should I be looking for a new one?> ----------------------- John, That was me that had questions concerning GL-5. Jim A. said a GL-5 "upgrade" would damage the brass syncros in the tranny due to its chemical properties. I had used this in the past & still am because what I was finding on the shelves was the proper viscosity (didn't know there was a GL specific at the time). After hearing from Jim, I went to a FLAPS & the major majority of what they have is synthetic & GL-5. There were one brand that had a GL-3, GL-4, GL-5 on the bottle. I've thought about changing to that but really have not encountered any problems with the GL-5 & have been running it for 2 years now. Jim, could you expound on the GL-3, GL-4, GL-5 combination in one bottle? hope this helps, Tom ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
