Actually, this last year was 1976, when Porsche installed remaining 914 
engines in 911s to create a cheaper model until the Audi-built 924 was 
released in 1977. The 76 912 has nothing much to do with the original 
912, built from 67-69. In a Road & Track Porsche buyers guide from late 
80's I have here somewhere, they say that the 76 912s had a terrible 
build quality and that one should avoid them like the plague. To some 
people that is just a challenge :-)
