Assuming you don't have A/C.... Unless you have one of those water-cooled type 3s, you're right, this is either water or gas. It should be easy to tell which it is: water beads up on asphalt, while gas soaks in. You can also test its feel & smell. There is also some chance that it is brake fluid, but that would not come from the engine. Take a look at your engine with a flashlight while it is running and look at the injectors on both sides. Follow the gas hoses along as much of their length as you can. Look for any trace of wetness.
