Yes. #1 would be right rear if the distributor were oriented correctly. Probably best policy would be to do the test Jim describes, in case someone's misinstalled the drive gear. Why use a Bug distributor? The stock ones are easy to find. Got vacuum? => Is that opening on the breather a huge vacuum leak => that needs to be plugged or will the engine run with => that open? The engine will run as normal with the breather tube off.
