Everything is different on the beetle dist, so you need to find out where #1 really falls, then wire accordingly. You'll have to take off the right side valve cover then turn the engine over to TDC and check to see if both the #1 valves are closed. If not, do another 360. Once you're at #1 TDC, find where the dist is pointing and then wire the dist accordingly. Then look for a real type 3 dist. The dists were machined with oil ports in their stems which will not get properly oiled if installed in a different direction in the case. > Question #3 is a bit more basic. This leak will probably be insignificant, but I would plug it if you drive in hot weather. > I think I'm close to getting this thing started. You can static time it, or borrow a timing light. There are just too many unknowns to leave this to chance. Since it is one thing that you can do, do it. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
