You should also look at the crankcase breather. 68-71 was one style while 72-3 was different. If you have half of one and half of the other then things can get wierd. Does your breather box have 1 or 2 plastic plugs on top? Does your oil filler pipe have a short stub pointing upward just outside of where it bolts to the case? Is there a steel tube that attaches to the front cover of the intake air distributor and wraps around the IAD and comes rearward along the lower right side of the IAD? How much stuff did you transfer to the new engine from the old one? Have you measured the compression? This was lowered on 72-3 engines.
