Set the engine on the TDC marks. Now look at the valves on both heads. When you are TDC on #1, there should be clearance on both intake and exhaust on #1 cyl, the intake on #2, and the exhaust on #4. If you are on TDC #3, there should be clearance on both valves on #3, the intake on #4, and the exhaust on #2. The valves CAN be adjusted in these positions, but adjust the valves on the off TDC cylinders (#2 & #4) about .001" looser. .007" instead of .006".
