<x-charset iso-8859-1>Yes Jim Your absolutely right about these corporations not being considerate to any customer without the financial resources and power of companies like GE or Westinghouse, etc. I was In sales of electronic components distribution business in Canada for large distributors many years ago and know how this goes. I was simply hoping to find some stock connectors from them that they are glad to mail out as samples to anyone who requests them. I find that perhaps, if we had been on this path thirty years ago we may just be able to tap into a great resource for our cars. Although 30 years ago we could have gone to our local VW dealer and most likely been able to buy these parts for a few dollars. We shall continue to seek out sources for our parts wherever they are. Mark Healy has shown some interest in ordering the 6000 pins from them, he or Amp has not indicated as yet whether a tooling charge is involved. We will soon all here I am sure. The company I used to work for used an AMP connector part which AMP discontinued. When we inquired about getting some more of these it eventually came out that they would be happy to make more if we bought $100,000 worth AND if we paid to make new tooling to the tune of an additional $100,000. After a few weeks of disbelief we actually went along with this and forked over the $200,000. I still can't believe we went for that. Several years later, we thought it might be a good idea to have more made, so we inquired again and got the same answer. We replied that they already had the tooling which we had already paid for. They responded that they had thrown it out and if we wanted more we would have to buy yet another set of tooling. We asked how they could throw out tooling which belonged to us without consulting us and they simply ignored us. Apparently you have to be MUCH more than a $200,000 customer to be worth their consideration. We stopped buying all AMP connectors, but I don't think they could have cared less. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
