If you had the front of the car on jacks for a period of time, the fuel has
simply flooded through the carbs because of the nose-up angle of the car.
That's one reason why VW fitted the stock carbs with electro-magnetic cutoff
jets. Just drain it out, change the oil, and clamp the fuel line next time
(or just make sure there's not too much fuel in the tank).
