First, make sure that the clamps are ALL the way down on the posts. If they are not, then you need to loosen and spread them, then retighten. DO NOT HAMMER, this will break the bond between the plastic and the lead in the battery and let acid creep up and destroy your battery leads. If your battery cable ends have been replaced with the bolt-on ones then they probably have bad contact to the cable if they are more than 1 year old. There is nothing out there with as good a quality as the original cables, so take care of them and avoid the clamp-on replacement ends at all costs. Check BOTH ENDS of both cables (+ & -); sometimes it helps to just loosen, wiggle, and retighten. I like to grease under there to prevent oxidation. Follow the current paths and check for loose connections, frayed wires, etc. The quality of the original wiring is EXCELLENT. It is ALWAYS best to maintain it rather than replace parts. Treat it well and it will not let you down. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
