When you installed the cam did you check to see that it was the right size for your crank gear and case? Are you aware of the size differences and how to check and install them? All of these increased the load on the gear. Good point. Few responsible places recommend a pump this big (31mm.) If you are compounding things by putting in heavy oil, too, then this can make a big difference in the amount of load on the cam gears. The stock 26mm dished cam oil pump is as large as anyone needs. This is another example of more not being "better." At high RPM the stock cam puts out more than enough oil.
