I'm happy to hear that you had a good trip home. I was a bit
concerned when I didn't hear from you for over a week, but I didn't
know how long you planned to stay in Canada. I trust you got my
message about correcting the ignition timing, but I'd like to hear
what kind of difference it made. Did you manage to check the gas
mileage on your trip?

I had a great time, too. It's nice that that engine has a good home
and I know that it will serve you well. I haven't stripped your old
engine down much more than where it was when you left, but as
you know there were plenty of things we had discovered already. I'll
let you know when I know more. I sent a report on what I found to
the list already, but if you didn't see it I can send it to you again.

It was really great to have Mike here with us for almost 5 days.
Getting to know people on this list is a great opportunity, but it's
nice to see that one's on-line impressions were close to the mark.
Mike's got the right karma and the right sense of stewardship; his
car is lucky to have him. ;-) As for me, I was happy to be able to
help him sort out not only the engine and fuel system, but also a
number of annoying small problems.

As for the weber carbs, I'm not sure how much of the problems
should be blamed on them. There were plenty of problems with the
assembly of the engine, enough to make it a case study in how
NOT to assemble a type 3 engine, and I haven't even seen inside
the case yet. It is quite likely that those carbs would do fine on a
properly assembled engine in a warm climate.

I hope the carb folks among you appreciate the fact that I'm trying
to be fair here. ;-)
