It is probably best to just re-adjust the old points. They will all 
seat in a bit at first. Replace them only if the contacts or the 
rubbing block looks bad.

No, it will not affact the engine temp, but it will affect the intake 
valve temp, however, these are never a problem as they always run 
pretty cool.

I will get the oil pressure gauge.

Hey, nothing wrong with a nice Schwinn! I have one I'm very fond of. 
It's rather dark though!
