Get an oil pressure guage.. and not the kind >with the little tiny plastic >tube, this will tell you alot more about whats going on. Ok. Will get the gauge. I'm going to need alot of reminding how to install and I'm going to be asking lots of questions to the list. Please be patient. This is really disheartening. Two years ago I paid $750 to have the engine rebuilt and I knew nothing about the car but thought I could trust this guy. He had such beautiful beetles that ran in such good shape and his garage was so clean and so organized. I really thought he knew what he was doing. Everyone had recommended him to me. Now I'm stuck and I dont know any other mechanics and the amount of distrust I have to have with anyone is really sucking my soul. I dont have the space, the time, the knowledge to do a rebuild myself yet. Does ANYNONE know of someone reliable in the New York area? I SWEAR I'll read the How to Hot Rod VWs book first. And I'll go over everything with whoever does it. The problem is I need someone within distance to a train back to NYC and.. god this is demoralizing. I tuned it up again yesterday. It was idleing sort of low and the dwell angle had opened up again and I installed my new points and set the timing again. Didnt drive it too far though. One last thought: when I did my valves, I set the intakes at .004 and the exhausts at .006. This was recommended to me, but by someone whose cars are in far better shape than mine. I read in Bentley that if the valeves arent all set at. 006 then the engine could heat up too much. Any chance this might be the culprit? I will get the oil pressure gauge. If this problem doesnt iron out, someone with a garage and a second car is going to have a nice little squareback and I'm going to be very sadly driving a Schwinn...:( ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:htèope3.org
