I'm sure no harm except that the engine will > take longer to heat up, right? Sorry, wrong. Since virtually all the wear and tear on an engine occurs during warmup this is VERY hard on your engine. It is commonly done by people who don't understand this and/or can't figure out how to reassemble the Type 3 cooling linkages.
