I can't speak for Maryland, but in general, if you want to drive the car every day, it will have to have the normal kind of plates. Most states require that you have a primary car to go with your special plates. The cutoff age also varies from state; many states have 2 levels of old cars. Here you can get collector plates (20 years), or antique plates (50 years).
