My question is this: are the '69 & '71 engine cases the same and, > if so, are they the same displacement (barrels) and do they use identical > heads? The cases are different, but the 71 case is better and supercedes the 69. The right heads are the same. but the temp sensor is in a different location on the left one. Again, you can install this head in a 69 if you also install the 71 upper cooling tin which has the hole for the late location. Both engines are 1600cc. 69 came with early injectors with black plastic, but the later yellow injectors superceded those, so your new injectors are good for either year. In general you can mix these engines up with no problems as long as you keep the following parts as a set, all from one year: computer, pressure sensor(s), wiring harness, distributor, throttle switch, temperature sensors, intake air distributor.
