*Everybody* has opinions. Mine is this; VW designed the motor to run as is for the life of the car. That's very nice, but in the dessert, the life of the car is only about 65K, at least as far as the motor is concerned (my Square is absolutely pristine; never seen a speck or a pin hole; not to gloat). I've seen engines with 80-85K on a T1 with a good remote cooler and filter, that sailed through emissions, and still ran like champs. I'm still relatively new to T3's, and they tell me that there are some problems fitting the standard VW T1 type filter on, behind the fan shroud/housing. I haven't investigated yet, as my motor runs pretty well, the oil is pretty clean, and I haven't a clue as to how many miles are on it. When I build the *new* mill, however, I'm going to use a filter. The only thing the screen does is filter out the larger chunks of aluminum; and if your mill is that far gone, a filter won't do diddly. > ---------- > From: hess@SONOMA.EDU[SMTP:hess@SONOMA.EDU] > Sent: Monday, October 26, 1998 2:59 PM > To: type3@vwtype3.org > Cc: type3@vwtype3.org > Subject: [T3] remote oil filter > > > > Remote oil filter.... does anyone have any comments or thoughts on this? > > ------------------------------------------------------------------- > List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org >
