Hey Keith, I'm an ex-pat NJ'er, but I live in Phoenix now. Sorry to hear about cold start. My '71 FI Square doesn't usually turn over twice before it's running; but sometimes when it sits for a day or two it cranks 6 or 8 revs before kicking off. It doesn't *ever* get below 35¼ in Phoenix, so I don't know if that's effecting you. There's usually an annual meeting of Buggers (pardon the pun) in Atlantic City, in the deep winter, and in or around the Meadowlands in Spring. I've been gone for seven years, though, so it's hard to say. -----Original Message----- From: klruff1@mail.webspan.net [SMTP:klruff1@mail.webspan.net] Sent: Wednesday, 14 October 1998 9:04 To: type3@vwtype3.org Subject: [T3] FI Cold Start Problems Greetings fellow T-3ers. I'm having a cold start problem when my 69 FI Fastback. When the car sits for a day or more, it takes 3 cranks to fire her up. First attempt, the fuel pump fires up, but the engine just cranks with no signs of wanting to start. Second attempt usuallt gets a sputter. Third attempt, she fires up. The car does not have this problem when it is warm, or when it us used daily - she'll start up on the first try after sitting overnight if she was running the day before. Any other T-3ers with FI experience this problem? Is this normal for 1960's vintage FI? I'm used to todays FI cars that fire right up no matter what the conditions are. The previous owner had all fuel hoses and the fuel pump replaced. I have a new fuel filter to install as of yet- not sure if this will help. Any info/advice will be greatly appreciated. BTW, is there any T-3ers out there who live in NJ? Does anybody know if there are any VW shows/gatherings in NJ coming up?
