He's not actually right about *all* if he claims to be talking globally. Much of the world got upright engines in Buses to '79, at least as a (cheaper) option. Type 4 engine is what he means. Not at all like the Type 3 in detail, but it is flat with the fan on the end of the crankshaft like the Type 3. It was fitted to the 411 and 412 in various forms from Aug 68 to July 74 ('71 on in USA). T1, T2, T3 and T4 are the four body forms of transporters. Type 1 = Beetle and derivatives; Type 2 = Transporters/Buses and derivatives; Type 3 = God's gift to thinking motorists; Type 4 = 411/412 Luxury car, but too unusual/ugly/individual to be considered.
