The bus is a type 2 regardless of the motor. 72 and up have type 4 motors . As far as I am concerned that is when VW started screwing everything up. Despite what RJ says T-4 motors suck . Late t-4 motors have hydrolic valves or something like that, but those are for people who are to lazy to adjust thier valves.
