I hope this is a quick & easy question for the pros.

Can anyone decipher the VW engine code as shown below.

            U0357148
            U5037830

What I need to know is how to determine the year, fuel system (1 or 2 carbs
or FI), and whether the block mates to a 4- spd or A/T.

Are the above numbers enough to know, or do I need more codes to break?
(maybe an enigma machine would help - I hope a few of you get this
reference)

Also,  is there anyone on the list in the central Kentucky area or knows of
a good VW shop in this area?
