If you have a 72 and your starter cables are mixed up, the fuel pump will run continuously as long as the key is ON even though the engine has not started. If you do not have THIS problem, but rather just a problem of running in general too rich, then it is most likely that your voltage regulator is worn out and regulating too low. Measure the battery voltage with the car warmed up (after a bit of a drive) and at a fast idle or above. It should measure above 14 V, ideally between 14.1 and 14.4 V. If it is below 14 V your battery is not getting a full charge. If it is below 13.5 V your FI will start to run rich, the lower the richer. Yes, I realize that this is counter intuitive, but that's just the way the electronics happen to respond to a low input.
