The fenders, the rear luggage area, the entire rear wheel wells... the rear seat back mounts have totally rusted off, as the body under/behind the rear seat arm rests is *gone*... heater channels rusted from the *inside* out... Driver's lower outboard seatbelt mount threatened... and much, much more. I've got the rear upholstery & seats totally out. On both sides, there's a massive gash that runs from the top of the wheel wells all the way down to under the back seat (along the outer edges). When I drive over bumps, I can look back and see the canopy moving up & down about an *inch* compared to the rear cargo shelf. They're just not connected any more. It's about two years too late for welding. Yes, I've learned from this... By the way, if it weren't for this '71 Squareback, I would still be only into Beetles and this mailing list would not exist. Period. (That is, I would have had nothing to do with it!) I didn't know diddly about Type IIIs until my buddy Teresa sold this car to me as a daily driver/beater. This car's original glovebox owner's manual is the one whose cover appears at vwtype3.org/owners.manual/ . :( -Greg A Beetle A Bus Couple of Squarebacks ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
