Gee, the mystery of why my 69 square refuses to cross the 50mph barrier was solved yesterday. I pulled off the left rear tire to adjust the clutch (which was slipping at said speed) and found the brakes to be locked on, barely turnable by hand. I guess I have to pull the hub apart and replace? Or can I beat it with a sledgehammer? Also, I need a new master. Will a locked wheel cylinder blow the seals in the master? Are master cylinders with the proper three brake switches available? Mine only has two and dangling wires. Also, a neat type III moment for me. I was helpinng a friend shop for a car today. She test drove this Audi 5000 turbo with 124K miles only $3000. She wants a honda though. I had to talk her out of a 67 beetle. Anyway, I noticed this junky 71 Squareback and inquired. Turns out it was headed to the crusher tommorrow and $100 would take it home. Couldn't use the car but for $50 I got three great tires with wheels. Most importantly I took the really cool factory jack and hubcap puller. Ok, they were rusted but they worked and it made me feel like a type III detective! I guess you guys already have these restored to immaculate condition. Let's run a thread on jack restoration (just kidding). BTW, he wouldn't let me take the fuel pump without the whole car(it worked). Rich
