Is it possible that the wire is wrapped loosely in a helix for a
number of turns around the shaft, thus giving it suffucient
flexibility to last a few years. I agree that this sounds fishy, but
I don't see any other way around it.
Someone who has a functioning one will probably have to answer this
correctly.
