I made a new friend today. He works down at my local aircooled VW parts place. This is a good place to have a friend if you own a '66 Squareback. I've been having this headlight problem since I bought the car last December; high beams or nothing. After cleaning the fusebox, and replacing all the fuses, cleaning all the light switch and relay contacts, still no "lows" would click on. Well I bought a used light switch which now gives me consistant dashboard lights, but didn't help get the "lows" to work. That left me with the new looking 12v relay to replace. When I got to the shop to pick up a new or used one this nice fellow offers to test my old one, and when he comes back to the counter he's fixed the bloody thing NC! Turns out he pried the cover off and bent one of the high/low (#56a/#56b) contacts make a sound connection. That's so cool. Now the question for all those VWiser than I; are the front parking lights supposed to go off when pulling the light switch from park to headlight position? Previously someone stated this might be a factory thing, if so, it is lame, and I'm going to figure a way to bypass it... Looks to me like I could connect the tail light wire/fuse (fuse #1) to the parking light fuse (fuse #7 for a '66). Has anyone done this? Regards, Peter Parker
