Yeah, yeah. I wish. Anyway, it would be hard to imagine even an
accidental, "really", late model Squareback rolling off the line in
Germany. Talk about one off Volkswagens ...
Oddly enough, I believe that it is Ferdinand Piech who owns a 1980 1303LS
Convertible - made in April of 1980, well after the production officially
stopped in Germany. I saw something about this at the museum. Apparently,
this Super Cab was built from remaining spare parts for him personally by
the factory as a gift. Its VIN does actually indicate it as being a 1980
model year and it has all of the possible extras added. I think he gave it
to his wife and there was something about it never having been driven. I
recall that their family also owns quite a few other rare Porsches (914s
and 911s that do not exist as far as official records indicate).
I wish VW would have made a 1978 Square from spares. It would be a rare
Square indeed.
