T3, Yesterday, while looking for some rear torsion bars at my local aircooled garage, I stumbled onto the, "Tyypi 3", shelf. This was pretty wierd, because I have been cataloging and sorting much of the old, used parts there for a couple of years now and I have never really paid attention to that particular area of the warehouse - I should have. Maybe I just got bored with all of the crappy TI, TII and TIV engines laying around ... this junk goes up to the roof. I managed to go through some of it and found a few things of value - at least for my car. Otherwise, nothing too unusual. Quite a lot of them are still in the VW dealer plastic bags, marked with PN's and are impossible to ID. What I did check out was all NOS stuff from various years, apparently bought by the owner of the garage (VWauhtipiste of Turku, Finland) from a dealer that went under some years ago. The NOS parts included (this is from memory and I was dizzy with happiness): -- 10 pairs of bumper brackets: the vintage is unclear, looks to be early -- 4 sets of front disc brake spindles -- numerous front axle parts, torsion bars, bearings and so on -- 1 set of rear brake drums -- 3 pairs of late model rear turn signal housing seals (also some used pairs) -- one brand new, late model turn signal housing (clean enough to eat off of) -- 2 pairs of heat exchanger protection plates (mounted at the bend in the exchanger) -- 1 pair of front brake discs -- 2 plastic fuel pump covers, vintage unknown -- transmission mounts -- 1 brand new Hella license plate light assembly (2 lights, all lenses intact, all wiring there) for late model Squareback (?) -- 5 factory primered doors of various years (all passenger side) -- 4 sets of rear or front bonnet/hatch/door/trunk latch mechanisms for different years (found only one set which works for my '67, rest is for later years) -- 5 new pairs of windshield wiper arms (grey/silver), vintage unknown (not '67 at least) -- 10 pairs of both rear hatch and front bonnet hinges, primered -- 5 pairs of door hinge plates -- assorted hoses for under the dash and back seat -- lots of other engine parts & plastic interior parts that I cannot identify The used OEM parts stash included: -- 2 more sets of late model turn signal lenses + housings -- engine compartment seals -- 1 pair of side marker housings and lenses -- 1 grey faced speedo -- one pair of front turn signal housings to 1967 -- one FB or NB license plate light assembly with lense and housing (this is about 35cm long and has a ribbed chrome section down the middle - no "S" marking) attaches to the rear hatch -- rear marker housings -- fuse box covers -- 1 pair of tail light lense housings to 1969? -- 2 front bonnets I am going to have to look at the rest and try to figure out what it all is. There was too much to take in all at once. I thought I was drunk just looking at all. I have that multi-lingual parts manual from VW and several other OEM factory parts manual (in Finnish) which may help. I suppose that most of it is for sale - there are so few TIII Volkswagens here, that no one will ever ask for any of this. If anyone is interested, please mail me. A few of the OEM parts look so new, it is hard to believe that they have been up there for 20 years. More parts when I figure out what they are - part numbers are available. Have a nice weekend.
