I use lithium greases most everywhere else, including the places you
mentioned, but I didn't try it there. I'm afraid I didn't want to make a
project of this, only did it once, with LPS-3. A nice light lithium grease
bight have been a better choice.
There's a current thread on rec.antiques.radio+phono on the proper
lubrication for the mainspring of an old windup Victrola. I'm watching that
to see if anything useful pops up.
