My daily driver was purchased this way, many years and at least 3 owners
before me. The car came with all the original paperwork (in umpteen
copies). The paperwork lists not only the VIN, but also the engine number.
Fortunately, when I got the car, I also got the original engine in two large
plastic garbage cans. So now, about 300,000 miles later, the car has it's
"original" engine and I can prove it!
