I mentioned that you could modify a MT case for AT use by just cutting away
this material. VW used to sell a replacement case already modified like
this; I don't know if it is still available. I probably have a good AT
engine if you are looking for a core to buy.

Good eye. The Bentley manual is the best there is, but it is not without
its mistakes. For some reason auto stick shift beetles have 4 bolt drive
plates. That must be the source of the confusion.
