Vacuum advance mechanisms

In general, VW made different distrubutors for each transmission and each 
year. I don't know about your situation in SA, though.  Did your original 
have a vacuum advance as well as mechanical?

The FI distributors all have both vac and mech advance and the advance 
curves are quicker on the AT units.

My '72 just rolled over 300 k according to the DMV; I don't really know 
since I haven't owned it for all that long (about 8 years.)  It's not going 
to live to see 400 k; the body's shot.
