I realized after I read this response that my comment had been based on FI T3s. Carburated cars are an entirely different matter and are much more sensitive to vacuum leaks. As for FI cars, I see lots of them that come to me with hose clamps on every hose end in sight. I have NEVER seen a case where this was either necessary or important. I believe this is just a sign of someone face with a problem they didn't understand and trying to fix it through concepts that they DID understand. These cars invariably still have problems, and they are often hard to figure out and fix. The hose clamps, however, accomplished nothing except to make it harder to service while sometimes damaging the hose. Yes, the vacuum hoses need to be there and doing their job, but the conductance through the line always overwhelms any small leaks that may exist in the hoses. I do see vacuum leaks in pressure sensors, and sometimes these MAY make a difference. Broken vacuum advance diaphrams are common and these completely disable the vacuum advance and must be replaced. Of course if one end of a hose is so bad that will not stay in place and falls off then that can cause a problem, depending on which hose it is. BTW, speaking of hoses, does anyone know if the larger diameter RED hose that was used in 72-3 T3s for the crankcase ventilation system is available anywhere? I would like to replace some of this since the ends that attach to the air cleaner always deteriorate and they were too short from the start so there is no excess which one can trim and restore the end.
