Hey everyone :) First off, thank you for all your help, you have no idea how much I appreciate it...My best friend runs a VW shop but when ever I ask him anything he either tells me "Sounds like something's wrong." or "keep playing with it, you'll figure it out" *LOL* But he is busy, so I guess I can understand his not wanting to become a VW crisis hotline...anyhow...here's a little update. After I got all your e-mails, I got to thinking...I knew it was running rich (really rich) but just couldn't get it to lean out...adjusted everything...I hook up my EIP tach and dial it in until the RPMs are at their highest...but I've been doing it in my Dad's garage...which has a real nice wood stove that keeps me toasty as I wrench...Curt's e-mail is what triggered my idea...the garage is 70 degrees inside...but the car is driving out side where it's about 35-40 degrees...makes a difference, huh?? So the next night, outside by the glow of my porch light, I tried adjusting the carb...and curt was right...it ran best about half a turn from all the way in. Took it for a little spin...MUCH better...but not yet perfect...still a slight miss on occasion and not quite the power it had...this was two days ago. Here's the weird thing. Today at lunch, I was pulling out of the parking lot at work and messing with my friend with a diesel Mercedes...pulled up next to him and revved the engine a few times...given how it's been running, I wasn't expecting what was about to happen...I dropped the clutch and left about 20 feet of tire marks!!! "What the #@$%!! Something's got to be broken" I thought. And it's been running great, except for that little miss, all day...but I've got all the power back. The only thing I've done differently is put Crown Gas in it instead of Exxon which I usually use...don't know if that's it or not...can't see how it could be. Anyhow... So I'm going to take Toby E's advise and leave the coil in it...and this weekend I'm going to try Toby B's idea and take the carb apart and clean everything...My friend gave me some new jets to put in. Jim said something about checking the gas mileage...that's about impossible for me...I have been running 195/50s since just before this started happening and my mileage dropped because of them anyhow...plus my Odometer doesn't work...but I put 165s back on it now for winter and my mileage has gotten better...maybe a combination of the tires and getting it running a little better. Thanks again everyone!! I'll let you know after Sunday if it's any better...I think we just about got it licked!! Thanks 1,000,000!! mikey
