Yes one relay for each switch, and you can mount them near the switches for
convenience in wiring and so that you don't need to cut up the wiring
harness.  The wires going to the relay will be the ones going to the switch
as well and in replacement of.

You may need to make some wire extensions, but again, don't cut up a
harness, get some good double male couplers and do it that way.

Protecting the pushbutton unit would require multiple relays -- for the 
low beams, high beams, and wiper motor, right? Does it make a 
difference where the relays are positioned in relation to what's 
drawing current? In other words, should they be close to the switch, 
close to the lights and wiper motor, or does it not matter? The 
foglight and horn relays on the Ghia are close the the lights and 
horns, I would imagine for a reason.
