switch for something self contained like a set of foglights, but the 
pushbutton unit is a complicated, interconnected mess and it's hard for 
me to understand which would be the right wires to tap into. Thanks for 
bearing with me.

Protecting the pushbutton unit would require multiple relays -- for the 
low beams, high beams, and wiper motor, right? Does it make a 
difference where the relays are positioned in relation to what's 
drawing current? In other words, should they be close to the switch, 
close to the lights and wiper motor, or does it not matter? The 
foglight and horn relays on the Ghia are close the the lights and 
horns, I would imagine for a reason.
