Every air cooled VW has had one of these break on me.  I think It is a 
lot more than every 25 years.

That's what I was wondering about and was hoping someone had tried it.

If it were visible it would be easier.  It just sucks when you are in 
the Costco parking lot, late for an appointment, burning your arm on a 
hot engine trying to find the hole.  I'd like to somehow modify it so 
the cable could be pushed all the way through without having to jack up 
the car.
