And it seems NOBODY makes our size anymore except for Kumho of Korea.
I really haven't heard anything *Bad* about them but they are awful
cheap....
Doesn't Good year or Michelin make 165 15's anymore??
And for those that are running Kumho's how are they in the rain?
Noisy on
the highway?
I am running Coopers on a couple of mine. I think they are still
available, in a 165-15.
I just recently had to do a little research myself, in this case for
a Porsche 914. I was not able to find the Coopers. The only choices I
found were either the (expensive) repros from Coker, and then you
have various far east brands that are stocked by some of the national
chains.
Coker offers 165 SR 15 Vredesteins for $80/tire before tax/shipping,
and Michelin XZX 165 SR 15 for $130. They also have a 165 HR 115
Michelin that's even more expensive, but that's probably more
interesting for a Porsche 914 than a Type 3 ;)
I had one set of Nankang 165/15 priced out at a total of $260
installed/balanced, this was from a chain named Les Schwab. You can
find cheaper far eastern 165/15 by going to the various national
retailers' websites and searching by size, but keep an eye on the
speed rating. I saw at least one tire that was actually Q-rated,
which is less than the factory rating we have on our cars. Buyer beware.
On the Type 4 list one member mentioned that Coker actually sends
truckloads of tires to big shows where you can buy them without
shipping and, especially at Hershey, at a discount. If there's a show
they go to near you you can order the tires and tell them to take
them to the show and save at least shipping that way.
