Re: [T3] New Owner!

<x-flowed>Check tire condition and pressure, oil level, brake pedal is firm. Check the wipers and washers work OK for the drive, in case it rains.
As you're driving, listen for any nasty noises that might indicate a problem and check for hot smells that would warn that the cooling flaps had stuck closed or there was something else wrong with the cooling system. Take a tow rope, some electrical wire and basic toolset in case of emergencies. Enjoy!

Hey - I just bought my first Type 3, and will be picking it up tomorrow. It's a '73 Fastback, only 36K miles, but it's been sitting (except for periodic starts) for the last couple of years. I'm hoping to pick it up in Jersey & drive home to the DC area (with a friend driving behind, in case we have problems on the way). Any thoughts on things I should check or look into before we make that drive? For that matter, would anyone care to share a phone number, in case we wind up on the side of a road, trying to fix something on an engine we're unfamiliar with? Thanks!
Annika
