Re: [T3] Points for Fi distributor

<x-flowed>The points are very common -- should be the same as an early 70's bug.
My guess is a bug Petronix would work -- the pickup is based on the location and shape of a set of points. The FI distributor has a set of "trigger points" in the body of the distributor -- only needed for the original electric fuel injection. You can take these out of your distributor, just plug the hole . . . but you have to have the other points to run the car.

Subject: [T3] Points for Fi distributor

Last year I bought a FI distributor from someone in this group for use on my type3 engine rebuild in my dunebuggy. It is a carb engine that now has among many other things, Kadron Carbs. I am using the mech adv, but not the vac adv. I now need to get new points for it. Do these take the same points as Type 1? My FLAPS that specializes in VW stuff knows little about anything but type1.

I know that the following question is a very hotly debated topic in this group, but here goes anyway. If I were to switch to a Pertronix points replacement, do I use the same one as the type 1, or is there one specific to this FI distributor?

Thanks,
Brad Mularcik
