I thought it was supposed to be just up to the level where it starts
to drip out. If you do this in cold weather you need to give the oil
time to get to a consistent level thruout the tranny. >>
The VW owners manual I have says to do exactly that... wait for the oil to
level out and then check it. It's mainly due to the fact that the lube is so
thick you could get a false reading. In other words, only putting in part of the
required amount, leaving the gear box low on oil.
