It's the Ball bearing on the front of the tranny, not sure if there is a spring behind it or not. At 300Kmi, and with what I found on the magnet I suspect there are other "issues" in there as well, this tranny seemed 'loose' when driving it. Reverse gear did look good though, maybe it's a do and learn candidate for the future! Keith I made an adjustment jig out of an old case. I used a hole saw to cut some access holes in the side so I could get to the shift fork clamp bolts. It works fine, but you have to be aware that there were 2 case styles, so I actually had to make some adaptor shims in order to accommodate both styles of trannys. I would expect bearing dimensions to be MUCH more precise than needed here, so that readjustment should not be necessary just because of a bearing replacement, but is this the bearing that has a spring behind it? If so, you might get the old bearing out, but you would need access to the backside to compress the spring and push the shaft back into the bearing far enough to get the snap ring on it. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
