[T3] Sandblasting

Sand blasting is OK and much cheaper. On the older cars with the heavy
metal it's not a problem. Media
blasting is the only safe way on the newer cars with the ultra thin metal.
The biggest problem with either is the heat generated and the sand getting
into everything. Having done both it takes a lot of time and attention to
detail to get all the grit out. Getting that grit out of the seams requires
the use of a very sharp pick or awl.

The blasting will also put a gray powder on all the parts which much be
removed. Within a hour or two you need to put a self etching primer (epoxy
is the best) on the bare metal.

In my opinion the best way is to DA sand and only blast areas of rust only.
I also treat all interior areas like rocker panels with a cleaner (Greased
Lighting @ Lowes) and a very high pressure washer to clean them out. Then
use compressed air with a long 2' extension to blast all the water out. Put
a heat gun on the cleaned areas to dry them then spray a anti rust
chemical into the channels using the compressed air to work the chemical
into the small areas. Spay bed liner into everything that will be hidden or
not painted for show.

Unitized bodies rust from the inside out and failure to get the rust
stopped on the inside areas will eventually eat to the outside.

And thats the way I do it.
