Bit of a late reply - grinding through the holiday backlog.

I haven't done a VW clock, but have done a Honda M/C speedo. The needle was only
pressed on, but VERY firmly - normal force didn't budge it. The "approved"
technique was to get 2 teaspoons and lever it off evenly from both sides at
once. Came off fine. Don't know how much stress it put on the bearing, but the
speedo still works fine.
