Apparently the VDO speedo hands will also come off with firm force, but the 
clock hands just don't. I need to find a completely destroyed clock and grind 
thru the hand hubs and find out how they are attached. Maybe this will lead to 
finding a way to get them apart non-destructively.

Your 2 teaspoon method sounds quite reasonable. I actually bought a clock hand 
puller, but I only broke the puller.  ;-p
